Full Stack Software Developer - Hockey Operations

About the role

The Detroit Red Wings are looking for a Full Stack Software Developer to develop and maintain software projects within Hockey Operations. The position reports to the Director of Statistical Analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain internal software products.
• Apply modern software techniques and best practices across the software lifecycle.
• Support the integration of hockey analysis into proprietary tools and applications.
• Assist with the design and development of new software products.
• Take on other projects or responsibilities as directed by Hockey Operations leadership.

Required profile

• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of experience developing web applications in a production environment.
• Ability to work through all phases of the product lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, testing and implementation.
• Ability to learn new technologies as needed.
• Familiarity with hockey, hockey-specific data and modern statistical techniques.

Required skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of modern web development, including at least one popular single-page application framework.
• Experience with large-scale relational databases using SQL.
• Preferred: HTML/CSS/JS and React JS, Node JS or Vue JS.
• Preferred: experience in the sports industry or with sports data, cloud-based software, API integrations with JSON, UX principles, data-driven web apps, and visualization tools such as D3 or Plotly.
