Freight Procurement Specialist

About the role

National Wire is seeking a Freight Procurement Specialist to own the sourcing, negotiation, and ongoing management of outbound and inbound freight. You will work closely with operations and finance to lower cost‑per‑ton, improve on‑time delivery, and strengthen the carrier network for flatbed and stepdeck shipments.

Key responsibilities

• Carrier sourcing & negotiation: build and maintain a vetted carrier base, negotiate contract, spot and fuel rates, and run RFPs as volume and lane mix shift.
• Daily load tendering: tender outbound loads, secure capacity, resolve coverage issues in real time, and coordinate load‑out timing with Conroe operations.
• Freight cost analysis: track and report cost per ton, cost per mile by lane, accessorial spend, and carrier scorecard metrics; identify monthly savings opportunities.
• Carrier performance management: monitor on‑time pickup/delivery, claims, and service issues; conduct quarterly business reviews with top carriers.
• Compliance: maintain carrier insurance certificates, authority verification, and broker/carrier agreements; ensure shipments meet DOT and state regulations.
• Cross‑functional partnership: collaborate with Sales on freight quotes, Finance on accruals and reconciliation, and Operations on yard and dock coordination.

Required profile

• 3+ years in freight procurement, logistics brokerage, or shipper‑side transportation management.
• Proven track record negotiating with truckload carriers; flatbed/stepdeck experience strongly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish.
• Self‑directed and disciplined in a remote setting, with strong communication to on‑site teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
• Proficiency in DAT/Truckstop platforms.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, basic modeling).
