Founding Backend Engineer (AI Focus)

About the role

We are looking for a founding backend engineer to build the core infrastructure that powers Atrix’s AI‑native workflows for life‑science data. You will design and own scalable data pipelines, robust APIs and real‑time inference systems that transform unstructured data into decision‑ready insights for top pharmaceutical customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement major backend modules including APIs, async workers and orchestration layers.
• Build and maintain high‑throughput data ingestion and retrieval pipelines that handle massive record volumes.
• Develop LLM‑based operations to make AI outputs explainable, auditable and cost‑efficient.
• Ensure multi‑tenant isolation and reliability across parallelized pipelines.
• Optimize inference performance, caching and latency for real‑time decision support.
• Collaborate closely with the engineering lead, CEO and cross‑functional product, AI and GTM teams.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a passion for deep technical challenges.
• Experience building scalable backend systems in fast‑growing, high‑stakes environments.
• Ability to work autonomously as one of the earliest engineers and influence architecture and hiring standards.
