Forester

About the role

MIMTA is looking for a Forester to join its team in Louisiana, based in the DeRidder office. The position supports forest management on about 170,000 acres in Southwestern Louisiana, in a team with foresters, managers and administrative staff. Candidates are considered for either Forester or Associate Forester depending on experience and education, and the salary depends on the level at which they are hired.

Key responsibilities

• Assist delivered timber harvesting operations, including planning, harvest layout, contract administration, timber security, quality inspections and reporting.
• Develop site-specific silviculture prescriptions, plan and budget, and implement operations.
• Administer local reforestation programs so plantations meet or exceed growth expectations.
• Update inventory and mapping software with resource support personnel.
• Work with external consultants, contractors and state agencies to protect assets and minimize casualty losses.
• Work with recreational license administrators, hunters and other users to ensure license compliance and improve non-timber revenue.
• Gather and analyze market intelligence to help resolve prices with area mills, and build relationships with silvicultural and logging contractors.
• Implement Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) objectives and standards, and take part in special projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years' forest management experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and insurable with the company's commercial carrier.
• Knowledge of, or ability to learn, key financial concepts for business decisions.
• Strong teamwork, communication and client-service orientation, and willingness to complete drug testing and follow the drug and alcohol policy.
