Financial Crimes Analyst

About the role

Varo is seeking a Financial Crimes Analyst to join its Financial Crimes Investigations (FCI) team. You will conduct targeted investigations to uncover money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, cyber crime and other regulatory violations, while collaborating across risk, product, fraud operations and engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Review moderate and complex transaction monitoring and surveillance alerts, conduct case investigations and recommend suspicious activity determinations.
• Prepare and review case narratives and Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filings describing red flags and adverse information.
• Perform historical transactional reviews and support law‑enforcement and information‑sharing requests (e.g., 314(a) and 314(b)).
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of BSA/AML regulations and FinCEN guidelines.
• Participate in project‑based work to recommend process enhancements, improve efficiency and refine risk‑mitigation procedures.

Required profile

• 2+ years of transaction monitoring and surveillance investigation experience in AML, counter‑terrorism, anti‑bribery or anti‑fraud.
• 2+ years as an intelligence analyst or in counter‑threat finance within DoD, intelligence community, law enforcement or supporting communities.
• Experience reviewing alerts, conducting investigations and drafting SARs.
• Strong judgment for risk‑based decisions, ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills.
