About the role

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at the University of Maryland is seeking a dedicated Financial Aid Counselor to join its Student Support unit. Working under general supervision, you will provide high‑quality counseling and administrative support to students and families navigating the FAFSA and other financial aid options.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver consistent, high‑quality customer service to students and families regarding FAFSA completion and financial aid options.
• Administer FAFSA and related financial aid programs, including need analysis, aid offers, reconsiderations, verification, loan processing, and compliance with Satisfactory Progress and Return to Title IV policies.
• Utilize financial aid systems, websites, and data reports for accurate processing.
• Collaborate with OSFA, Enrollment Management, and other campus partners on projects and outreach events.
• Represent OSFA at campus and community outreach events as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of professional experience in financial aid, finance advising, or related counseling.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and Title IV financial aid regulations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a team environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
