Finance Coordinator

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Finance Coordinator to join its San Diego Finance team. This role supports the Statewide Family Support Coordinator (SFSC) grant, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance, and timely financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with IRC accounting policies, GAAP, and donor requirements.
• Review, post, and reconcile invoice journals; resolve discrepancies.
• Validate sub‑grantee invoices and supporting documents for accuracy and eligibility.
• Verify funder reimbursements, reconcile payments, and record them in the accounting system.
• Prepare grant expenditure reports, investigate variances, and submit to management.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of donor policies and share insights with program teams.
• Provide backup support to the Finance Manager for day‑to‑day duties.
• Perform other finance‑related tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Formal accounting or bookkeeping training; a 4‑year degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
• At least 3 years of professional experience with accounting and bookkeeping procedures.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work collaboratively in a cross‑cultural environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with spreadsheets and accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience using MS Word and general office software.
