Field Service Technician I – Gas Compression

About the role

The Field Service Technician I supports gas compression packages by performing basic maintenance, troubleshooting, installation and commissioning under supervision. This entry‑level position provides hands‑on experience with both internal combustion and electric driven compressors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in rebuilds, overhauls and emergency repairs of compressors, engines and control systems in the field.
• Support installation of new units, including start‑up inspections and commissioning.
• Perform mechanical inspections using micrometers, pressure gauges, electronic diagnostic equipment and specialty tools.
• Submit accurate field service reports, expense reports and timesheets daily.
• Participate in a call‑out rotation and travel on short notice, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; vocational/technical training preferred.
• 1–3 years of relevant mechanical or electrical experience.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license and ability to pass drug screen, background check and physical testing.
• Own basic hand tools; ability to lift at least 50 lb and work in all weather conditions.

Required skills

• Mechanical troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of gas compressors.
• Electrical diagnostics and use of electronic diagnostic equipment.
• Proficiency with micrometers, pressure gauges, dial indicators, laser alignment tools, feeler gauges, digital volt‑ohm meters and hydraulic torquing equipment.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Understanding of gas and oil properties and related safety procedures.
