Field Coordinator 2 – Homeland Security (Georgia)

About the role

The Homeland Security Coordinator (HSC) supports Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security (GEMA/HS) in protecting life and property across the state. Based in Area 3, the HSC works on school safety, terrorism response, and disaster consequence management, providing training and technical assistance to local agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑scene assistance during natural and man‑made disasters, including public speaking and briefings for senior officials.
• Facilitate school emergency operations planning and deliver training programs on homeland security, school safety, and crisis response.
• Author detailed reports for government, public safety officials, courts, and emergency management agencies.
• Assess critical infrastructure using the IP Gateway system and support the Georgia Suspicious Activity Reporting program.
• Conduct investigations, site surveys of educational facilities, and evaluate emergency drills and exercises.
• Collaborate with local law enforcement, GBI, and the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center (GISAC) on security incidents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field, or seven years comparable experience.
• Minimum three years of law‑enforcement experience and ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Secret clearance.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license and willingness to reside in the assigned geographic area.
• Ability to pass a GBI background investigation and maintain POST certification as a peace officer.
• Strong oral communication skills for dynamic presentations and clear written reporting.
