Fiber Forming Operator

About the role

IKO Industries Ltd., a manufacturer of roofing and building materials, is hiring a Fiber Forming Operator at its IKO Glass Fiber facility in Chester, South Carolina. The role sits in the Production department and is listed as full time, though the listing also notes FT/PT/Cont options.

Key responsibilities

• Pull glass from bushing break-outs efficiently and place it into choppers
• Ensure the forming process and chopper operation run efficiently, and troubleshoot problems and implement corrective action
• Identify poorly performing bushings and positions, and fix them
• Monitor critical process variables and product quality, such as bushing temperatures, air flows, pre-pad spray pressure and volume, applicator and chopper speeds, and cut quality
• Take bushing melt rate samples and other quality checks, and inspect fiber production and product quality during pack-out
• Maintain forming positions and the binder applicator assembly, and clean as needed
• Work every day, on time, following all safety policies and procedures

Required profile

• Three or more years of manufacturing experience preferred
• Ability to work in a high-temperature environment and to lift or move materials up to 10 lbs regularly, and up to 50 lbs
• Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work from heights, and to work overhead for long periods
• Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift covering days and nights
• Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to give simple, accurate instructions
