Epidemiologist 1 – State Public Health Department

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Public Health is seeking an STI Epidemiologist 1 to support surveillance and prevention activities for sexually transmitted infections. You will work within the Division of Epidemiology to analyze data, produce reports, and assist stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and present analyses monitoring STD prevention effectiveness and data completeness.
• Assist senior epidemiologists with STI surveillance, data collection, and analysis.
• Obtain and match STI data with external sources such as vital records and HIV data.
• Maintain the state electronic notifiable disease surveillance system (SENDSS) for rapid data retrieval.
• Run SAS code, generate datasets, reports, and update annual reporting materials.
• Provide technical assistance to local health districts and other users of STI surveillance data.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least two years of epidemiologic or related experience.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with health professionals, officials, and the public.
• Ability to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and maintain data quality.

Required skills

• Proficiency in SAS.
• Experience with R.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Data visualization using Tableau.
• Geospatial analysis with ArcGIS.
