Environmental Compliance Specialist – Albany

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist for the Albany District Office. You will support the protection of land, water, and air by ensuring facilities comply with state environmental laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Collect environmental samples following established procedures.
• Investigate complaints related to land protection, water supply, air quality, and erosion.
• Perform inspections, interviews, and technical reviews of facilities such as landfills, wastewater treatment plants, and construction sites.
• Provide environmental education and technical assistance to stakeholders.
• Audit facilities, review permit applications, and draft correspondence or permits.
• Recommend enforcement actions and monitor corrective measures.
• Travel to field sites, including occasional overnight assignments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Ability to work under supervision while evaluating compliance programs.
• Willingness to perform field work and travel as needed.
