Environmental Compensation Specialist (Risk Assessor) Levels 1-3

About the role

The Environmental Compensation Specialist (Risk Assessor) supports the Georgia Environmental Protection Division by reviewing human‑health and ecological risk assessments, evaluating cleanup standards, and providing technical guidance to the Land Protection Branch and other EPD programs.

Key responsibilities

• Review and evaluate human‑health and ecological risk assessments, sampling plans, and conceptual site models.
• Analyze exposure assessments, dose‑response data, and environmental data to characterize risk.
• Advise regulated communities and EPD programs on risk‑based investigations and cleanup decisions.
• Participate in meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop technically sound recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or a closely related field.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple assignments.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, and verbal communication skills for explaining complex scientific information.

Required skills

• Proficiency with U.S. EPA risk‑assessment tools (RSL and VISL calculators, Adult Lead Model, ProUCL).
• Experience in human‑health and ecological risk assessments, screening levels, and cleanup standards.
• Knowledge of exposure and toxicity assessment, contaminant fate and transport, soil‑to‑groundwater leaching, and vapor intrusion.
• Data analysis and statistical methods applied to environmental datasets.
