Entry-Level Buyer (Buyer I)

About the role

The Buyer I position supports the Procurement Services department at Texas A&M University‑San Antonio by handling standard purchasing activities. This entry‑level role is designed for candidates with a bachelor's degree who are ready to develop a career in procurement.

Key responsibilities

• Procure goods and routine services by preparing specifications and processing requisitions.
• Secure bids, tabulate results, and award contracts for standard purchases.
• Maintain accurate records of requisitions, bids, and purchase awards.
• Issue purchase orders in accordance with university policies and procedures.
• Verify purchase accuracy, return damaged shipments, and resolve vendor inquiries.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education/experience.
• No prior purchasing experience required; 1‑2 years preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
• Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, and lift moderately heavy objects.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
