Entry Level Background Investigator

About the role

CACI, a provider of federal background investigations since 2004, is hiring an Entry Level Background Investigator in Washington. The role is full time, requires a Top Secret clearance to start, and involves up to 10% local travel. It is contingent on funding and may not be filled immediately.

Key responsibilities

• Use technology, electronic tools and multiple systems to interview subjects, employers, associates, references and other knowledgeable people, and review records to obtain facts.
• Resolve all material issues in a case to establish the background, reputation, character, suitability or qualifications of the subject.
• Conduct interviews by Virtual Teleconference (the primary method), phone and in-person meetings.
• Attend a multiweek intensive virtual online training with shadowing and mentorship by an experienced investigator.
• Travel to locations across the U.S. for temporary duty assignments, typically lasting two weeks.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or four years of general experience showing progressive responsibility in problem solving, planning and organizing, and effective oral and written communication.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable T5 investigation determination.
• Strong sense of mission supporting national security initiatives, and impeccable work ethic and integrity.
• Current driver's license, reliable personal vehicle and willingness to travel locally depending on the assignment.
• Home office with reliable high-speed internet (a $50 monthly internet stipend is provided).
• Ability to sit, type, stand or walk for long periods, and excellent time management and prioritization skills.

Required skills

• Excellent written and oral communication, including presenting clearly and handling sensitive information tactfully.
• Correct English grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Nice to have: active Top Secret clearance based on a T5. The position is covered by the Service Contract Act, with a minimum hourly wage of $26.07; the actual rate depends on contract, location and job classification.
