About the role
The English Language Training (ELT) Instructor provides integrated English instruction to non‑native speakers, helping refugees develop language and employability skills. Reporting to the Adult Education Coordinator, the role works closely with an Employment Caseworker to ensure learners meet their personal and professional goals.
Key responsibilities
- Receive client referrals and conduct initial assessments, including pre‑tests and post‑tests.
- Design, update, and deliver curricula and lesson plans for mixed‑level classes, integrating basic communication, job skills, digital literacy, and life skills.
- Adapt lesson activities to serve learners ranging from pre‑literate to high‑intermediate English proficiency.
- Manage community volunteers as classroom assistants and oversee breakout group activities.
- Maintain documentation to meet funding, licensing, and quality‑assurance requirements.
- Evaluate student progress, compile data, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Track attendance, set learning goals, and support recruitment and retention efforts.
Required profile
- Passionate, solutions‑driven individual committed to humanitarian impact.
- Experience working with adult learners, especially refugees or non‑native English speakers.
- Strong organizational skills for assessment, documentation, and data entry.
- Ability to collaborate with caseworkers and coordinate volunteer support.
