Engineering Technician I

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Water Department’s Capital Delivery Division is seeking an Engineering Technician I to join its In‑House Design Group. This entry‑level position supports water and wastewater infrastructure projects, working closely with professional engineers to produce designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

Key responsibilities

• Transform survey data and field notes into accurate designs and drawings for engineering and planning projects.
• Assist engineering staff with preparing designs, construction drawings, technical specifications, and project cost estimates.
• Review plans for compliance with City standards and accepted construction practices.
• Provide technical drafting, design, and project support to the In‑House Design Group.
• Communicate with residents, contractors, and consultants regarding procedures and guidelines.
• Conduct site visits to collect measurements and verify existing field conditions.
• Maintain organized engineering drawings, plans, and project records.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Class “C” driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and physical examination.
• Three or more months of experience using AutoCAD or Civil 3D (preferred).
• Associate degree in a technical or related field (preferred).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) (preferred).
• Experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (preferred).
