Electromechanical Design Engineering Internship (Jan‑Aug 2027)

About the role

This internship offers a hands‑on experience in the full lifecycle of an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) at a joint venture between Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies. You will join an Electrical Hardware team and work on projects that may involve circuit design, mechanical packaging, validation testing, reliability analysis, or supplier readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Support proof‑of‑concept, design, or validation activities for an assigned hardware project.
• Design and develop analog, digital, or mixed‑signal circuits, including schematic capture and component selection.
• Assist with mechanical packaging design, structural and thermal simulation for ECU enclosures.
• Build and run hardware validation tests and contribute to test‑automation systems.
• Participate in functional safety analyses such as FMEA or FMEDA.
• Document component release information and maintain accurate design records.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to understand requirements and communicate progress.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at an accredited U.S. university.
• Actively pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Intent to return to school after the internship.
