Electrical Engineer – Cable Harness Design

About the role

Sabanto is building autonomous farming equipment and needs an Electrical Engineer to own the design, validation, and production release of vehicle wiring harnesses that connect the control system to commercial agricultural machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Translate tractor specifications, component requirements, and communication protocols into complete wiring harness designs.
• Select wires, connectors, terminals, and protective sleeving based on performance and environmental criteria.
• Create technical drawings, wiring diagrams, 2‑D bundle layouts and 3‑D models.
• Choose and qualify fuse and circuit protection, and address EMI/EMC considerations.
• Qualify manufacturers, manage inventory, and conduct quality testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and digital multimeters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of professional experience designing wiring harnesses for automotive or agricultural equipment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and quantitative skills.
• Hands‑on attitude, able to work on‑site in Ames, IA and interact directly with farmers.

Required skills

• CAN bus, Ethernet and RF cable assembly design.
• Design for manufacturability (DFM), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
• Use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and digital multimeters for testing.
• Creation of 2‑D bundle drawings and 3‑D layout models.
• Fuse and circuit protection selection, EMI/EMC testing, supplier qualification and inventory tracking.
