Editor, Secret LA

About the role

Fever, a tech platform for culture and live entertainment, is hiring an Editor for Secret LA, its digital city guide for Los Angeles. The role reports directly to the Managing Editor for the region and combines writing, team management and editorial oversight of the Secret LA site.

Key responsibilities

• Find stories and generate content ideas for the LA market, and write engaging, accurate articles at pace
• Manage a small team of local writers, video producers and social media creatives
• Monitor site content, including daily news, features and local reporting
• Manage an editorial calendar with colleagues covering news, events and local content, including long-lead functions, trending stories and campaigns
• Occasionally appear in Reels, TikTok videos and other brand content
• Oversee strategy and output across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and the Secret LA newsletter, in line with SMN standards
• Keep site copy and headlines to editorial standards and style guide, and make content SEO-friendly
• Research keywords, track community KPIs and draw insights from data
• Share weekly feedback and best practices with the team and the regional Managing Editor, and liaise with other teams on content opportunities
• Develop sources such as PR reps, restaurateurs, venues and event spaces, and support promotional efforts in LA

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in a newsroom, content agency, creative agency or digital media property
• Passion for journalism, social media and digital marketing, and willingness to learn video content creation for social media
• Ability to adapt to a fast-moving digital startup, with a strong sense of what content works online
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking and leadership in managing a team
• Love for Los Angeles and sharing it with the world

• SEO and keyword research
• Photo sourcing is a plus

• Base salary of $88,000 - $94,000 with a performance bonus
