Early Career Controls and Instrumentation Engineer

About the role

Amentum's Advanced Solutions Group, which designs, builds and operates complex R&D facilities for nuclear, automotive, motorsports, defense and aerospace clients, is looking for an Early Career Controls and Instrumentation Engineer. The role supports projects from small studies to multi-million-dollar turnkey solutions, and candidates may be based in Tullahoma, TN or Farmington Hills, MI.

Key responsibilities

• Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for SCADA systems
• Develop control system software designs, including PLC programming and HMI development
• Build interfaces to facility equipment using industrial protocols such as MODBUS TCP, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP
• Apply closed-loop control methods to continuously variable systems
• Support hardware assembly and fabrication through panel shop testing
• Perform light installation tasks on-site for commissioning, and carry out facility startup, checkout and commissioning under supervision, domestically and abroad
• Communicate with clients and management on project status and coordinate with other engineering disciplines

Required profile

• US citizenship, required for government customer requirements and regulations
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program
• 0-5 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation and commissioning
• Team player willing to learn from senior engineers and mentors
• Preferred: EIT-PE exam passed or in progress

Required skills

• PLC programming and HMI development (preferred: Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, Emerson PCS7)
• Experience selecting and procuring instrumentation, PLCs, drives, motion systems and automation network hardware (preferred)
