DSP and Life Skills Instructor

About the role

New Horizons, a nonprofit dedicated to individuals with special needs, is seeking a bilingual Direct Support Professional (DSP) and Life Skills Instructor. You will provide hands‑on instruction and support to adults with developmental disabilities, helping them achieve greater independence and community inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Individual Program Plans (IPP) using personalized teaching strategies.
• Develop daily living, communication, social, and self‑advocacy skills through prompting, modeling, and coaching.
• Promote health, safety, and dignity by following medication, emergency, and reporting protocols.
• Apply behavior‑support strategies, de‑escalation techniques, and positive reinforcement.
• Maintain accurate daily notes, incident reports, and attendance records.
• Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and members to ensure consistent support.

Required profile

• Passion for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to undergo training and work a full‑time schedule (40 hrs/week, M‑F plus one flexible weekend day).
• Ability to work onsite in community‑based and day‑program settings.

Required skills

• De‑escalation and positive reinforcement methods.
• Basic health‑and‑safety and medication‑monitoring procedures.
• Accurate documentation and compliance with regional center requirements.
