About the role
The Director of Project Management & Controls leads the creation of a consistent project management structure across Curtin Maritime, providing functional leadership to Project Managers handling Capital Builds, Marine Construction, and Shipyard projects.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and maintain a company‑wide project management framework with standard phases, stage gates, templates and controls.
- Provide direct or functional leadership to Project Managers across Capital Builds, Marine Construction and Shipyard projects.
- Set expectations for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, risk, documentation and communication.
- Coach and develop Project Managers through reviews, field engagement and training.
- Lead portfolio‑level reviews, prioritize projects, manage critical paths and resource constraints.
- Create consistent reporting for schedule, cost, forecast, risks and overall project health.
- Strengthen Critical Path Method scheduling using Microsoft Project and other approved tools.
- Partner with Finance to improve budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting and early detection of overruns.
- Establish risk, issue, change order and decision tracking with clear ownership.
- Coordinate across Operations, Marine Transportation, Shipyard, Crewing, Finance, Safety, Procurement and other teams.
Required profile
- Proven ability to build structure, establish standards and improve accountability without excessive administrative burden.
- Strong influence skills across multiple departments and balance of functional standards with operational realities.
- Excellent coaching, communication, negotiation, facilitation and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Sound business and financial judgment with risk identification and timely decision‑making.
- Capacity to shift between portfolio‑level leadership and detailed project work as needed.
- Self‑motivated team player with strong work ethic and ability to manage competing priorities.
