Director of Product Design

About the role

Ethos, a life insurance technology company, is looking for a Director of Product Design to lead and elevate design for its core business and emerging businesses. The role improves the customer journey from landing page to policy activation and shapes new product experiences, working with Product, Engineering, Research and Brand leaders so that every touchpoint is intuitive, efficient and emotionally resonant. It combines strategic vision, team management and hands-on design.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design for the core conversion funnel: landing pages, application flows, underwriting, checkout, onboarding and policy management.
• Lead, mentor and grow a small team of product designers.
• Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing and Brand to deliver experiences aligned with conversion and retention.
• Raise the bar for the design practice: design systems and craft, accessibility, disciplined decision-making, experimentation, storytelling and use of research and data.
• Partner with adjacent design functions such as Performance Creative and Brand for a consistent user journey.
• Build an environment of excellence and growth for team members.

Required profile

• 10+ years of product design (UX) experience, including several years leading multi-person design teams.
• Proven ability to design complex, decision-heavy B2C journeys in fintech, healthtech or insurtech.
• Strong understanding of conversion optimization, user motivation and behavior design.
• Experience turning ambiguous situations into clear, actionable flows.
• Strong communication with teams and stakeholders, and a track record of improving product quality and design culture.
• A portfolio showing visual and interaction design and storytelling craft.
