Director of Pharmacy

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a senior leader to direct its Pharmacy Department, ensuring cost‑effective, high‑quality pharmacology therapy across the health system.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicians and pharmacy staff to administer timely, cost‑effective pharmacology therapy.
• Review, monitor, and recommend changes to prescription programs, formulary, pre‑authorizations and exceptions.
• Direct and coordinate Pharmacy Department functions in compliance with government regulations.
• Lead performance‑improvement activities and identify cost‑reduction opportunities through formulary control.
• Ensure quality and cost‑effectiveness of departmental operations and patient‑care services.
• Implement procedures according to hospital policies and legal requirements.
• Analyze prescribing trends and inappropriate usage.
• Establish and assess internal controls, ensuring staff training on University policies.

Required profile

• Education: Pharm.D. degree.
• Certification and Licensing: Relevant specialty certification.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge of business and management principles; ability to set departmental goals aligned with strategic plans.
• Proven ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
• Strong leadership, motivation, development, and training capabilities.
