Director of Early Childhood Education

About the role

The Director of Early Childhood Education leads the Preschool, Transition Pre‑Kindergarten and Pre‑Kindergarten programs at Bellevue Children’s Academy. Reporting to the Head of School, the role ensures instructional quality, licensing compliance, and a smooth transition to the elementary program.

Key responsibilities

• Provide instructional leadership aligned with the IB PYP framework and play‑based philosophy.
• Maintain full compliance with Washington State DCYF licensing, MERIT background checks, teacher‑to‑student ratios, and health‑safety documentation.
• Recruit, hire, coach, and evaluate early‑childhood teaching staff, including onboarding to licensing requirements.
• Manage program budgeting, supply ordering, and classroom material needs.
• Partner with the Director of Elementary and Head of School on enrollment strategy and Pre‑K‑to‑Kindergarten transitions.
• Build relationships with families and serve as escalation point for program concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of progressive early‑childhood experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Working knowledge of Washington State DCYF licensing regulations and the MERIT system.
• Experience with IB PYP or similar inquiry‑based, play‑centered curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, and evaluate teaching staff.
• Washington State School Administrator certificate preferred.
