About the role

The Director of Alumni Relations will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy for Texas A&M University‑San Antonio. This senior position oversees a high‑visibility calendar of events, cultivates volunteer leadership, and provides strategic guidance to the emerging Alumni Council.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement an alumni engagement plan aligned with the university’s mission and advancement goals.
• Create opportunities for alumni connection, mentorship, professional development, networking, advocacy, and philanthropy, with special pathways for first‑generation, adult‑learner, military‑affiliated, and affinity‑based alumni.
• Lead planning, budgeting, and execution of alumni events such as homecoming, awards, reunions, athletics rallies, and transition programs.
• Manage event logistics, vendor relationships, sponsorships, and volunteer participation to ensure high‑quality experiences.
• Serve as primary liaison to the Alumni Council, offering strategic counsel, leadership development, and governance support.
• Collaborate with academic and program stakeholders to strengthen lifelong alumni connections.

Required profile

• Proven experience in alumni relations or university advancement, with a full‑lifecycle understanding of alumni engagement.
• Exceptional relationship‑building and diplomatic skills for working with volunteers, donors, university leaders, and community partners.
• Strong leadership, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple high‑visibility projects simultaneously.
