Director, Legal Affairs

About the role

Fòs Feminista is seeking a Director of Legal Affairs to serve as the organization’s principal legal advisor. Reporting to the Lead, Strategy & Impact and working closely with the CEO’s office, the role provides strategic counsel across governance, operations, advocacy, philanthropy and institutional development for a global, multi‑entity feminist movement.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the CEO and senior leadership on legal, governance and organizational matters, translating complex legal issues into actionable guidance for non‑legal teams.
• Support the design and maintenance of a legal architecture that spans multiple jurisdictions, affiliated entities, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) structures, and evolving political environments.
• Provide counsel on compliance, grantmaking, advocacy campaigns and cross‑border operations.
• Coordinate a global network of law firms and pro‑bono legal advisors to ensure access to specialized expertise.
• Participate in Strategic Management Team discussions, contributing legal and strategic insight to executive decision‑making.

Required profile

• Demonstrated strategic judgment in navigating complex legal, governance and organizational issues for multi‑entity structures.
• Experience with U.S. nonprofit entities (501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4)) and international philanthropy.
• Ability to work across diverse jurisdictions and political‑regulatory contexts.
• Strong communication skills to convey legal concepts to non‑legal audiences.
