Director

About the role

The Director will lead a highly technical team focused on rapid IT prototyping and digital solution development for the Food Safety and Inspection Service. This position requires modeling leadership behaviors aligned with FSIS values and the agency’s digital modernization priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team delivering prototype systems, dashboards, analytics platforms, and automation tools.
• Define project scope, select software toolsets, and determine deployment strategies using independent technical judgment.
• Drive innovation by encouraging experimentation with emerging technologies such as machine learning, large‑language models, cloud‑native tools, automation, and advanced data visualization.
• Maintain clear, continuous communication of objectives, progress, and deliverables to internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate across executive program components to align technical solutions with operational needs.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; must meet background investigation and security clearance requirements.
• One year of specialized experience at the GS‑14 level, demonstrating delivery of prototype systems and translation of complex operational challenges into technical requirements.
• Experience in program and project management, including planning, evaluation, and efficiency improvements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
