Director for Emerging Technologies and Research

About the role

The Director for Emerging Technologies and Research will lead the strategic vision and execution of AI and High‑Performance Computing (HPC) initiatives within Texas A&M University’s High Performance Research Computing (HPRC) center. Reporting to senior university leadership, the role shapes emerging‑technology portfolios, drives interdisciplinary collaborations, and ensures the institute remains at the forefront of computational science.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement a multi‑year roadmap for AI, HPC, and data‑science technologies.
• Prioritize and manage complex, innovative projects across multiple academic departments.
• Oversee design, deployment, and operation of large‑scale compute clusters and AI platforms.
• Lead a team of engineers, scientists, and support staff to deliver reliable, high‑throughput services.
• Secure external funding, manage budgets, and represent HPRC in national cyber‑infrastructure initiatives.
• Foster partnerships with industry, government agencies, and research consortia.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in AI, HPC, or data‑intensive research environments.
• Track record of managing large, interdisciplinary projects and delivering results.
• Strong academic or industry background in computational science, engineering, or related fields.
