Director, External Communications (Investment Management)

About the role

The Director, External Communications for MetLife Investment Management (MIM) leads the external reputation of the firm’s institutional asset management business. Reporting to senior leadership, the role shapes narratives, media relations and thought‑leadership initiatives to elevate the MIM brand and increase visibility among investors and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Support the execution of external communications and media relations strategies that strengthen MetLife Investment Management's reputation among target audiences.
• Develop compelling narratives, thought‑leadership content, executive messaging, media materials, and digital communications that showcase MIM's investment expertise and strategic priorities.
• Partner with senior leaders, investment teams, research professionals, distribution teams, and marketing partners to identify and amplify timely storytelling opportunities aligned with business objectives.
• Manage proactive and reactive media engagement, including spokesperson preparation, issues management support, and response strategies for reputationally sensitive matters.
• Coordinate measurement and reporting activities to evaluate communications effectiveness and identify opportunities to increase visibility, engagement, and impact.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years of experience in external communications, public relations, media relations, or corporate communications, preferably within asset management, investments, or financial services.
• Proven experience developing and executing external communications and media relations programs that support business objectives and strengthen organizational reputation.
• Strong relationships with financial media and journalists.
