Director, Community Engagement

About the role

The Director, Community Engagement is a senior leader within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the Texas A&M University System, reporting to the Chief Information Officer. The role drives digital and face‑to‑face engagement strategies across all system members, fostering collaboration among CIOs, IT staff, researchers, and faculty.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organize and execute system‑wide IT conferences, summits and professional development events for the 12 universities, health science center and state agencies.
• Coordinate the CIO’s on‑site engagement visits to member institutions, preparing agendas, briefing materials and follow‑up reports.
• Assist with internal and external grant program management, including progress reporting and community coordination.
• Develop and implement change‑management plans for major OIT initiatives, covering stakeholder analysis, communication strategies and training.
• Establish and sustain communities of practice in emerging technologies, initially focusing on artificial intelligence.
• Partner with OIT delivery units to create communications for major projects such as Workday, FAMIS, SSO, Enterprise Data Warehouse and TrainTraq.
• Lead OIT’s digital presence, shaping content strategy for the website and social‑media channels.
• Supervise professional and administrative staff, handling performance reviews and talent development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in event management, communications and relationship building within a higher‑education IT environment.
• Strong understanding of emerging technology trends, especially artificial intelligence, and their application in academia.
