Direct Support Professional – Group Home Care

About the role

The Direct Support Professional provides daily care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in a group home. The role focuses on fostering independence, ensuring safety, and promoting community inclusion while following each person’s Individual Service Plan.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver physical, emotional, and social support in the home and community, adhering to each Individual Service Plan.
• Assist with activities of daily living such as hygiene, toileting, bathing, and dressing.
• Administer prescribed medications accurately and document administration.
• Prepare balanced meals, manage grocery shopping, and maintain a clean, safe living environment.
• Transport individuals to outings, follow road safety rules, and support community participation.
• Respond to challenging behaviors, including verbal and physical aggression, using non‑aversive crisis intervention techniques.
• Complete thorough documentation, including daily notes, event reports, and shift change routines.
• Participate in trainings, safety checks, fire drills, and staff meetings while maintaining confidentiality.

Required profile

• At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• Passion for serving individuals with developmental disabilities and ability to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to pass a criminal background check and maintain it biennially.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, auto insurance, and ability to transport clients safely.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and OIS certifications.
• Strong communication skills, ability to handle confidential information, and alignment with values of compassion, integrity, and responsibility.
