Digitization Services Coordinator

About the role

The Digitization Services Coordinator leads the in‑house digitization operations at the University of Maryland Libraries’ Hornbake Digitization Center, supporting the creation of digital collections for students, faculty, and researchers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage in‑house digitization operations for textual, photographic, and audio materials.
• Supervise, hire, and train hourly student assistants, ensuring quality control of digital files and metadata.
• Coordinate short‑term user‑initiated requests and long‑term digitization projects, balancing priorities and timelines.
• Establish and enforce quality‑assurance standards for digital files and associated metadata across all repositories.
• Oversee vendor relationships, negotiate quotes, issue purchase orders, and monitor outsourced digitization work.
• Maintain digitization equipment, track production statistics, and generate inspection reports.
• Develop and update procedural documentation and project instructions in collaboration with the Head of Digital Collections.
• Research emerging digitization standards and recommend expansions into new formats.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (ALA‑accredited) or an equivalent advanced degree in a related field.
• Experience managing digitization workflows, staff, and vendor relationships in a library or archival setting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and user requests.
• Familiarity with digital repositories and metadata standards.
