Design Systems Lead

About the role

Ramp is looking for a Design Systems Lead to embed design judgment into the foundations of its product. You will shape a system that enables designers, engineers, and AI agents to create coherent, high‑quality experiences without constant oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the design systems team, setting clear priorities, goals, and providing direct feedback.
• Own the vision and direction of the design system, deciding what to preserve, evolve, simplify, or replace.
• Elevate visual and interaction design across the product, raising standards for typography, hierarchy, motion, and accessibility.
• Translate design principles into reusable patterns, reference experiences, and guidance for both people and agents.
• Collaborate with engineering to shape technical architecture, balancing flexibility, performance, and ease of use.
• Stay hands‑on by building prototypes, writing code, and testing implementations.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading and developing strong design or design‑engineering teams.
• Exceptional visual and interaction design sensibility with a track record of improving speed and quality of shipped work.
• Deep systems thinking and ability to create guidance that other teams adopt at scale.
• Strong technical fluency, comfortable prototyping and discussing front‑end trade‑offs with engineers.
• Active, hands‑on use of AI in design workflows and a curiosity about its impact on software building.
