Design Engineer in Training – Water Resources

About the role

Woolpert, an award‑winning global leader in architecture, engineering and geospatial services, is seeking a Design Engineer in Training to join its Water Team in Houston, Texas. The role supports technical delivery on water‑resources, drainage, utilities and site‑civil projects while building foundational engineering skills.

Key responsibilities

• Work under the direction of a Professional Engineer and support Project Managers/Project Engineers on storm‑water design, water distribution, sanitary collection and land‑development projects.
• Prepare reports, conduct field work, and assist with project schedules, scopes and budgets.
• Use CAD Civil3D to create and refine design plans, specifications and cost estimates.
• Perform design calculations, read and interpret engineering plans, and identify creative solutions to technical issues.
• Attend client and stakeholder meetings, present work, and record meeting minutes.
• Ensure designs comply with local and state regulations in Texas, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
• Conduct quality‑control reviews and participate in firm‑wide quality initiatives.
• Potentially assume sub‑project manager responsibilities on complex projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Legal work authorization in the United States (no visa sponsorship).
• Ability to perform design calculations, read engineering plans and present technical information.
• Understanding of relevant state regulations and commitment to quality standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD Civil3D.
• Design calculation and analysis capabilities.
• Knowledge of water‑resources, drainage and utilities design principles.
• Quality‑control review experience.
