Data Scientist - Applied AI & ML

About the role

Sunlighten is seeking a Data Scientist focused on applied AI and machine learning to drive AI‑first products across Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, Operations, Product, and Business Intelligence. This role will improve existing AI capabilities and create new AI‑powered solutions that deliver measurable business impact.

Key responsibilities

• Build, evaluate, and enhance AI‑powered products such as LLM agents, RAG workflows, semantic search experiences, and decision‑support tools.
• Partner with the AI Applications Engineer on system prompts, model selection, parameters, tool‑calling behavior, fallback logic, and user experience.
• Design and maintain evaluation frameworks covering groundedness, helpfulness, safety, completeness, consistency, and business usefulness.
• Create and manage golden datasets, expected‑answer sets, rubric‑based scoring, and regression tests for key AI use cases.
• Improve retrieval quality through better chunking, metadata, embeddings, ranking, filtering, and knowledge‑store design.
• Support knowledge‑store architecture, including Q&A structures, metadata schema, Cosmos DB design, and semantic search patterns.
• Provide BI, analytics engineering, data modeling, and reporting support when business priorities require.

Required profile

• Strong background in applied AI/ML with experience delivering AI products in a business environment.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into reliable, secure, and measurable AI solutions.
• Comfortable collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders including engineering, BI, and product teams.
• Willingness to adapt to evolving AI roadmap and take ownership of end‑to‑end AI workflows.
