Critical Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer – Field Engineering

About the role

Amazon’s Field Engineering team is seeking a Critical Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain mechanical systems that keep data center facilities operating safely and efficiently. You will apply core mechanical engineering principles to solve thermal, fluid dynamics, and material challenges across a growing fleet of data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement cooling, air‑handling, and fluid systems for existing data center environments to improve performance and safety.
• Develop and refine reusable mechanical design templates that standardize system architecture across locations.
• Conduct thermal and fluid‑dynamics analyses to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and recommend maintainable solutions.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, construction managers, and operations teams to evaluate design options, balance technical risk, and deliver scalable solutions.
• Communicate designs, trade‑offs, and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences; mentor peers and lead design reviews.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience with a focus on data‑center or large‑scale infrastructure.
• Proven experience in thermal modeling, fluid dynamics analysis, and mechanical system design.
