About the role

The Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office is seeking a Criminal Investigator I to support defense teams by conducting thorough investigations for clients charged with criminal offenses. This full‑time position works closely with attorneys to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and build strong defense strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute investigations, including crime scene analysis, evidence collection, and background checks.
• Interview clients, witnesses, complainants, and law‑enforcement officials.
• Prepare detailed reports documenting interview findings and investigative developments.
• Collaborate with attorneys to develop defense theories and compile supporting evidence.
• Maintain accurate case files and ensure timely delivery of investigative results.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program, **or** two years of law‑enforcement experience with Georgia P.O.S.T. certification.
• Strong judgment, decision‑making ability, and investigative experience.
• Valid Class C driver’s license (if required by the position).
