Counsel, Legislation and Government Relations

About the role

Clipboard is seeking a seasoned Counsel to lead its legislative and government‑relations efforts. You will work closely with product, sales, and operations teams to navigate complex policy environments and ensure compliance across multiple states.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize legislative and regulatory objectives in target states.
• Collaborate with lobbyists, legislators, and executive agencies to draft and advocate for proposed laws and regulations.
• Build coalitions with external stakeholders who share Clipboard’s vision for policy change.
• Monitor state and federal legislative activity and assess compliance risks.
• Provide legal advice to business units on a wide range of issues, including contract, risk, and regulatory matters.
• Prepare responses to regulator inquiries and manage relationships with outside counsel.

Required profile

• Deep understanding of state and federal legislative processes.
• Proven experience influencing policy and regulatory decisions.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
• Comfort working in a fast‑paced, ambiguous startup environment.
• Willingness to tackle unfamiliar legal issues and support broader legal needs.
