Correctional Officer Trainee

About the role

The Correctional Officer Trainee program provides up to three months of formalized on‑the‑job training in security and custodial duties for the Illinois Department of Corrections. Trainees will learn essential correctional operations and will be sworn in after successful completion of pre‑service security training.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in eight weeks of pre‑service security training at the IDOC Training Academy.
• Perform security and custodial duties under supervision at a designated correctional facility.
• Maintain safety and order within the correctional center while adhering to department policies.

Required profile

• Physically fit to meet screening standards prior to training.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a full‑time work authorization in the United States.
• Willingness to work onsite at one of the state correctional facilities.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of security procedures and custodial responsibilities.

What we offer

• Anticipated starting salary of $5,018 per month, with a range up to $6,435 per month.
• Full‑time, salaried position with union benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
