Controller – Finance & Operations Leader

About the role

Basketville is seeking a versatile Controller to act as a strategic partner to the CEO and oversee the company’s financial, accounting, human resources, and risk functions. This senior position blends CFO‑level oversight with hands‑on responsibilities across finance, payroll, benefits, and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Provide financial analysis, reporting, and advisory support to the CEO on both tactical and strategic matters.
• Generate, review, and approve monthly and annual financial statements and reports.
• Manage working capital, cash flow forecasting, credit, collections, and ensure sufficient liquidity.
• Maintain relationships with lenders and banking partners.
• Prepare annual, multi‑year, and interim budgets and forecasts.
• Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings in coordination with the independent accountant.
• Design and enforce internal control systems to protect corporate assets.
• Administer employee benefits programs, handle claims, and ensure compliance with benefits regulations.
• Process payroll, manage onboarding, timekeeping, and other HR compliance activities.
• Monitor and implement applicable federal and state HR legal requirements.
• Lead IT strategy initiatives, manage staff, and evaluate technology solutions.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate business risks through appropriate insurance coverage.

Required profile

• Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash‑flow management.
• Strong background in tax compliance and coordination with external accountants.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective internal controls.
• Experience managing payroll, employee benefits, and HR compliance matters.
• Knowledge of risk assessment and insurance procurement.
• Excellent communication skills to work closely with senior leadership, legal counsel, and staff.
