Control Systems Engineer – Automation & Controls

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to provide hands‑on support for the design, development, programming, installation, modification, troubleshooting, validation, and continuous optimization of control system software and hardware across its manufacturing campus. The role focuses on ensuring reliable, compliant automation for HVAC, environmental monitoring, and central energy plant systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, program, install, modify, and maintain campus‑wide automation and control systems supporting office, research, manufacturing, and remote warehouse operations.
• Provide daily operational support, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure system reliability, data integrity, and minimal downtime.
• Perform advanced technical analysis to diagnose, optimize, and continuously improve control strategies and system performance.
• Program, configure, and maintain PLC/PAC controllers and associated hardware/software.
• Develop, execute, and document IQ/OQ validation protocols for automation systems in regulated environments.
• Maintain cybersecurity, backup/recovery, and documentation in line with cGMP, FDA, and GxP requirements.
• Support Windows and Linux environments that interface with automation platforms.

Required profile

• Strong technical depth and analytical problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with regulated control system environments (cGMP, FDA, GxP).
• Ability to manage contracts, small projects, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• PLC/PAC programming and configuration.
• Ignition Perspective graphics and report development.
• HVAC, environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, pressure, particulate counts) control.
• Central energy plant chilled water and steam distribution control.
• Validation protocol development (IQ, OQ) and documentation.
• Cybersecurity, data integrity, backup/recovery for automation systems.
• Windows and Linux system administration.
• Documentation of source code, as‑built drawings, system architecture, and network diagrams.
