Consultant - Middle and Back Office Oversight, Investment Management

About the role

Deloitte's Regulatory, Risk & Forensic team is hiring consultants for its Enterprise Operations & Risk offering in Middle and Back Office Oversight for Investment Management. The team helps client leaders turn multifaceted risk and an evolving regulatory environment into defensible actions, using data, AI and emerging technologies. The position is open in 12 locations, including Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and others.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and prioritize business, operational, regulatory and technology risks in the middle and back office, and support practical risk mitigation strategies.
• Support oversight of investment management operating functions such as trade lifecycle controls, trade capture and enrichment, confirmations, settlement, reconciliations, collateral and margin, corporate actions, pricing and valuation inputs, fee calculations and exception management.
• Help clients strengthen operational governance and oversight across internal teams and third parties (custodians, fund administrators, prime brokers, pricing vendors).
• Evaluate the impact of automation, AI and machine learning on operational controls, data quality and process resilience.
• Develop client deliverables such as operating model assessments, process maps, control inventories, KRIs, SLAs and OLAs, vendor oversight artifacts and procedure documentation.
• Engage with industry participants on operating model trends, outsourcing/insourcing and vendor capabilities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree.
• 2+ years of experience in financial services or consulting with exposure to investment management operations (asset managers, wealth managers, hedge funds, private equity, fund administrators, custodians, prime brokers).
• Demonstrated knowledge of asset management, wealth management, hedge funds, private equity and/or operational risk and controls in investment management.
• Understanding of middle and back office functions such as trade operations, post-trade processing, investment and fund accounting, reconciliations, collateral and margin, corporate actions and reporting.
• Experience with oversight and control frameworks: SLAs/OLAs, KPIs/KRIs, break management, issue and incident management, operational controls testing, third-party vendor oversight and operational resiliency.
• Ability to travel up to 75% on average; limited immigration sponsorship may be available.

Required skills

• Experience with investment management systems such as OMS, EMS, portfolio management tools, investment accounting platforms, reconciliation tools, collateral platforms, data warehouses and performance reporting software.
• Project management skills and strong written and verbal communication, including supporting or leading proposal development and sales presentations.
