Medical Billing and Bookkeeping Specialist

About the role

A medical billing and bookkeeping specialist is needed to act as the dedicated owner of billing, authorizations and bookkeeping for a purpose-driven treatment organization. The role keeps cash flow steady and lets new clients start services without payment delays. It is remote and part time, flexible within 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST (possibly starting around 10:00 AM), and takes these tasks off the founder's plate.

Key responsibilities

• Process accurate and timely billing for Medicaid and Medicare claims
• Handle authorizations for new clients so services can begin without payment delays
• Maintain day-to-day books and mid-level accounting records in QuickBooks
• Use Carlin for Maryland Medicaid authorization and billing tasks
• Keep billing and authorization records organized and up to date

Required profile

• Hands-on experience with Medicaid and Medicare billing in the U.S.
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Bonus: experience with Maryland Medicaid billing and authorization, or with a healthcare or behavioral health organization

Required skills

• Working knowledge of QuickBooks and general bookkeeping
• Familiarity with mental health and substance abuse billing and authorizations preferred
• Experience with Carlin preferred, though training can be provided
• Nice to have: experience with an EHR system
