Construction Specialist - Substation Site Prep

About the role

ACRT, Inc. is looking for an experienced Construction Specialist in Richmond, VA, who enjoys working outdoors. The role oversees civil construction work on site for new substations and the expansion of existing ones, starting with installing E&S Controls. It suits both entry-level and seasoned professionals with a background in civil construction, engineering or related fields.

Key responsibilities

• Install E&S Controls and carry out clearing, grading, fills and/or cuts, removal of unsuitable soils and installation of suitable material
• Install storm water management systems per site plans, such as plunge pools, retention ponds or rip-rap slopes
• Coordinate delivery of materials and equipment to the site
• Monitor and assist with substation and forestry activities for new construction and future utility lines
• Ensure safe work practices, quality and efficiency while meeting target dates and complying with environmental and agricultural requirements

Required profile

• 2-year degree in Construction Management, civil engineering or a closely related field, or 2 years of prior civil engineering experience in place of a degree
• Virginia Responsible Land Disturber certification preferred
• Sediment and Erosion certification preferred
• Understanding of how to oversee contractors building a temporary access road and re-seeding after completion
• Ability to travel throughout eastern Virginia and work independently in rugged terrain and bad weather
• Valid driver's license

Required skills

• Experience reading civil construction drawings (a plus)
• Familiarity with a SWPPP book (a plus)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to read and follow maps
