Construction Inspector III

About the role

The Construction Inspector III provides advanced-level inspection of a wide range of public‑works projects, ensuring that contractors comply with plans, specifications, contracts and applicable ordinances. This senior position leads lower‑level inspection staff and serves as the technical point of contact for complex construction activities.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect traffic control, streets, sidewalks, curbs/gutters, driveway pads, water, wastewater, sewer and storm‑drainage projects for compliance with approved plans and regulations.
• Perform plan‑checking functions, interpret city‑approved drawings, and verify correct placement of traffic control devices.
• Document inspection activities daily, including logs, quantity verification, change‑order documentation, environmental permits and testing reports.
• Coordinate testing of asphalt, concrete, soil and water with city or private laboratories.
• Act as liaison between contractors, project managers and other agencies, addressing citizen complaints and inspection issues.
• Provide functional and technical leadership to lower‑level inspection personnel.

Required profile

• Fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.
• Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Experience leading or supervising inspection staff is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of construction codes, specifications and municipal ordinances.
