Concrete Carpenter – Concrete Finisher

About the role

Crofton is seeking a skilled Concrete Carpenter and Concrete Finisher to join its marine and heavy‑civil construction team in Portsmouth. The role involves setting up and dismantling concrete forms, pouring and finishing concrete for a variety of structures, and maintaining a safe, organized work site.

Key responsibilities

• Form and pour concrete for heavy civil and marine structures such as foundations, walls, pile caps and slabs.
• Set up, align, and dismantle concrete forms, ensuring proper dimensions and depth.
• Install and tie reinforcing steel bars (rebar) to provide structural integrity.
• Operate concrete mixers, power buggies, and other heavy equipment safely.
• Spread, level, and finish concrete using rakes, shovels, hand or power trowels, screeds and floats.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 2‑3 years of experience in heavy civil or marine concrete work.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lb, work on ladders, scaffolding and in all weather conditions.
• Proven experience working over water and on work floats, following strict safety and PPE protocols.

Required skills

• Concrete form setting and dismantling.
• Rebar installation and tying.
• Concrete finishing with hand and power tools (trowels, screeds, floats).
• Operation of concrete mixers and power buggies.
• Reading and interpreting construction drawings and blueprints.
