About the role
The Education Justice Project seeks dedicated individuals to join its Community Library as members. This unpaid, volunteer position supports incarcerated student librarians at Danville Correctional Center, helping them build and maintain a robust collection of print and digital resources while fostering information literacy.
Key responsibilities
- Provide guidance and training to the on‑site team of incarcerated Student Librarians.
- Assist in building, cataloging, and maintaining the library’s collection of print and digital materials.
- Support the development of information‑literacy skills and help organize library events that encourage critical thinking and discussion.
- Meet with the student librarians on Mondays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm throughout the 2026‑27 academic year.
Required profile
- Hold an MLIS degree, be currently enrolled in an MLIS program, or possess equivalent professional experience.
- Commit to be available during the 2026‑27 academic year.
- Backgrounds that align with the incarcerated students, such as members of racial minority groups, first‑generation degree holders, or individuals from low‑socioeconomic backgrounds.
