Community Health Coordinator – Violence Intervention

About the role

The Community Health Coordinator (CHC) provides peer support to current and recently discharged patients who have suffered violent assault injuries in the UAMS Emergency Department and Trauma Center. The CHC works within Project Heal, a hospital‑based violence intervention research program, and assists with recruitment, data collection, analytics, grant writing, and dissemination of findings.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver peer support through status checks, encouragement, virtual and in‑person visits, outreach, and skill‑building activities for patients with violent assault injuries.
• Conduct program eligibility screenings, obtain informed consent, and complete enrollment documentation.
• Provide brief bedside interventions, including needs assessments and review of a vetted resource guide.
• Track and review all participant encounters, manage data collection, and support quantitative and qualitative research activities.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary research and clinical staff, community partners, and national network members.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Education or related field, or high school diploma/GED with four years of health‑education experience.
• Personal experience of surviving a violent assault (e.g., gunshot, stabbing) and hospital recovery, to ensure rapport with participants.
• At least three years of experience working with health‑care systems, victims’ services, mental‑health or substance‑use programs, or community‑based organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, follow ethical practices, and reliably report to work as scheduled.
